To produce all the exhibition texts in both English and German, we relied on our own resources as well as AI-driven translation support.
One of our group asked ChatGPT about the emissions related to its use, and it responded that an average query produces about 2 grams of CO₂.
So if we conducted around 100 AI-driven translations or proofreading queries during the exhibition text work, that would amount to approximately 200 grams of CO₂. For comparison: a person living in Germany generates an average of 3,6 kg of CO₂ daily by using digital devices and tools. Sending a single email produces about 4 grams of CO₂—so with an estimated 2,000 emails exchanged over the 2.5-year duration of the project, this would total around 8 kilograms. Emissions from the digital realm were not included in the carbon accounting framework of the Zero Fund, yet in the very end due to slight shift in the accounting framework a slight proportion of all emissions from digital activities was added: 48hrs of video calls, resulting in 0,1kg of CO₂ emissions.
