Artist Anna Witt returned to Gorleben to shoot her film. She traveled the night before the shoot to the Beluga Triangle in the woods of Gorleben, taking the train to Salzwedel, where she was picked up by working group member Julia, who had traveled to Wendland in her private van. The van was used for transporting materials and food, and it was equipped with a heating system to keep the performers warm during the upcoming video shoot, as they would get wet during filming. While temperatures were below zero, the project relied on support from the local fire brigade, whose fire engines were incorporated into the film. The performers, who live in villages throughout the Wendland region, traveled by private car—most of them carpooling. Another protagonist in Anna’s interview video also traveled by train to Salzwedel and was picked up by crew members. The cameraman traveled with his assistant and brought the equipment from Braunschweig in a private car. We chose to work with a local cameraman to minimize travel-related emissions. Catering was provided by a small guesthouse near the Beluga Triangle, which served a seasonal, locally sourced pumpkin soup. The soup was served on ceramic plates, which were cleaned at the guesthouse. Tea and coffee were prepared in the production van.
As some of the travel costs were covered by Anna’s scholarship at the University of Braunschweig, they do not appear in our climate accounting.
