August 1-4, 2023

In early August 2023, we took all our Hungarian-collaborating artists on a research trip to the locations we intended to work with during the project. We were four artists, two SALT. CLAY. ROCK. working group members, and our Hungarian producer. This trip was low in travel emissions, as one of the artists arrived by car from Bratislava for an unrelated performance that same weekend. Because of the mixed purpose of his travel, expenses were partly paid privately and partly from a per diem, meaning emissions were ultimately unaccounted for, yet he could take three people in his car. All other participants travelled by public transport, train where possible. One of the working group members was traveling to Hungary for holidays afterwards, and her family joined the trip with their private car, which was also privately paid. In this way, we were able to move in relative comfort and with flexibility between Paks, Bátaapáti, and Ófalu, using a mixture of car travel, public transport, and walking.

We took a long walk through the hills between Bátaapáti and Ófalu, giving in to the summer heat and a slower pace, cooling our feet in the Danube or a nearby lake.

Estimated emissions from this research trip: 350 kg CO₂e
