Exhibition research display object 21: record "Songs Against Nuclear Power Plants"
16.03.25
A total of twelve protest songs were released on this record, “Songs Against Nuclear Power Plants” by the performers De Likedelers (Bremen), the VSK Music Group (Cologne and Stuttgart), Arno Fries (Cologne), Dirk & Michael (Hamburg) and C. P. Lieckfeld (Hamburg). The record was released by the politically active Cologne-based independent label Neue Welt.
The background to the record’s release was the legal attacks against activists who demonstrated against the Brokdorf nuclear power plant. They faced charges of property damage and trespassing. The sale of the record was intended to help cover the high legal costs incurred through their anti-nuclear activity. They held a basic principle that “every attack on an anti-nuclear activist is an attack on the entire movement!” More than 20 songwriters and musicians were engaged with the project. In the summer of 1977, the best contributions were selected and recorded. The songs’ contents derive from the anti-nuclear movement, most contributors were movement activists. This is also reflected in the song titles such as “Now We’re Fed Up! (Wir Haben Jetzt Die Schnauze Voll)” or “Little Song From The Sicke World (Liedchen Von Der Kranken Welt).”
